Bhutanese and Singaporean Buddhist Delegation Visits PTDC
2025
A distinguished group of Buddhist monks from Bhutan and Singapore, led by the 8th Guru, Venerable Zuri Rinpoche, visited the Head Office of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) on 1st December 2025. Their visit formed part of a spiritual journey tracing the footsteps of Guru Padmasambhava, the revered 8th-century spiritual master also known as the Second Buddha, whose birthplace is believed to be in the territories of present-day Pakistan. Mr. Aftab ur Rehman Rana, MD PTDC, warmly welcomed the delegation, briefing them on Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives for the conservation of Buddhist heritage and the promotion of religious tourism. This visit marked the first-ever Buddhist delegation from Bhutan exploring sacred sites in Pakistan, signifying a deepening of cultural and spiritual ties between South and Southeast Asian Buddhist communities. Venerable Zuri Rinpoche expressed appreciation for the efforts of federal and provincial tourism and archaeology departments in preserving, restoring, and showcasing Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. The delegation also discussed future collaborations, emphasizing the potential of Pakistan as a pilgrimage destination for Buddhist tourism, which could foster intercultural understanding, spiritual tourism, and local economic growth in heritage regions.
